# Buddy Customizer

Use this skill when the user wants to modify their Claude buddy in a way that matches the leaked Claude Code buddy flow.

## Workflow

Start by asking one branching question:

- change only `companion`
- reroll buddy attributes by searching for a seed UUID

Do not ask for all preferences at once. Narrow step by step.

Before any seed inspection or search, check whether Bun is available:

If Bun is available, use it for all roll and search commands.
If Bun is not available, use `scripts/run-with-bun.sh` so the skill installs a project-local Bun runtime before running the roll or search script.

## Branch A: Change Companion Only

Ask progressively:

1. keep or change the current name
2. desired personality
3. any extra style detail that should be folded into the personality text

Then:

1. inspect the current Claude settings file
2. summarize the exact `companion` changes
3. ask for confirmation
4. update only `companion.name`, `companion.personality`, and `companion.hatchedAt`

Do not change `userID` or `oauthAccount.accountUuid` in this branch.

## Branch B: Reroll Attributes

Ask progressively in this order:

1. rarity range or minimum
2. allowed species
3. allowed hats
4. whether shiny is required
5. stat lower and upper bounds for any stats the user cares about

After each answer, keep the active constraint set small and explicit.
When asking each layer, show the allowed values from the reference table below instead of assuming the user remembers them.

When constraints are ready:

1. run `scripts/search-buddy-seeds.mjs`
2. show a few matching candidates with:
   - UUID
   - rarity, species, eye, hat, shiny
   - DEBUGGING, PATIENCE, CHAOS, WISDOM, SNARK
3. warn clearly that applying a candidate changes the seed used for buddy bones
4. ask for confirmation before any write

If the user confirms, update the settings file with the chosen seed. After that, optionally offer a companion-only edit pass.

If no matches are found, do not stop at the empty result. Ask the user whether to:

1. continue searching with a larger attempt budget
2. relax one or more constraints

Default to continuing the search before suggesting major constraint changes.
When continuing the search, prefer a larger attempt budget or the script's resume mode before changing the user's requested target.

## Scripts

Use these bundled scripts instead of reimplementing the logic:

- `scripts/buddy-lib.mjs`
  For deterministic roll inspection and constraint matching.
- `scripts/search-buddy-seeds.mjs`
  Search random UUID candidates until enough matches are found.
- `scripts/update-claude-settings.mjs`
  Resolve the Claude settings file, show a dry-run summary, and apply the patch.
- `scripts/run-with-bun.sh`
  Prefer global Bun and install a project-local Bun runtime into `./.cache/bun` when Bun is missing.

Prefer running the roll and search scripts with Bun, not Node, because the leaked Claude implementation uses `Bun.hash(...)` when available and that changes the resulting buddy bones. Treat Node results as approximate fallback only.

Use `scripts/run-with-bun.sh` as the default launcher for roll and search work.

## Allowed Values

When asking the user to choose allowed values or ranges, use only these options:

| Rarity | `common`, `uncommon`, `rare`, `epic`, `legendary` |

Tell the user these choices when collecting constraints. If they provide a value outside the list, correct it before searching.

## Recommended Commands

Inspect an existing seed:

Dry-run a companion update:

## Safety Rules

- Always show a dry-run summary before writing.
- Always get explicit confirmation before changing a seed UUID.
- Preserve unrelated settings.
- If no Claude settings file can be found, stop and report the checked paths.
- If the user gives impossible constraints, explain that no matches were found and suggest relaxing one layer at a time.
- If Bun is unavailable and project-local Bun installation fails, stop and surface that clearly instead of falling back silently.
