# mars — Agent Package Manager

Mars manages `.agents/` directories — installing agent profiles and skills from git repos and local paths, tracking ownership in `mars.lock`, and linking managed content into tool directories like `.claude/`.

Bundled with meridian — use `meridian mars` subcommands.

## Quick Start

```bash
meridian mars add haowjy/meridian-base     # add a source (GitHub shorthand)
meridian mars add ./local-agents            # add a local path source
meridian mars sync                          # resolve + install to match config
meridian mars list                          # show installed agents/skills
```

## Commands

| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
| `meridian mars add <source>` | Add source (GitHub shorthand, URL, SSH, local path), then sync. |
| `meridian mars remove <source>` | Remove source, prune managed files. |
| `meridian mars sync` | Resolve + install. `--force` overwrites local changes. `--diff` previews. `--frozen` errors if lock would change (CI). |
| `meridian mars upgrade [sources]` | Fetch latest versions, sync. |
| `meridian mars outdated` | Show available updates without applying. |
| `meridian mars list` | Catalog: `name: description` grouped by AGENTS/SKILLS. `--status` for checksums. |
| `meridian mars why <name>` | Show which source provides an item. |
| `meridian mars rename <from> <to>` | Add rename rule, sync to apply. |
| `meridian mars override <source> --path <PATH>` | Local dev override in `mars.local.toml`. |
| `meridian mars link <target>` | Symlink agents/skills into tool dir (e.g. `.claude/`). `--unlink` to remove. |
| `meridian mars check [path]` | Validate source package (publisher CI). |
| `meridian mars doctor` | Validate installed state (config, lock, files, links, deps). |
| `meridian mars repair` | Force rebuild from sources. |
| `meridian mars version <bump>` | Bump [package].version, commit, tag. `--push` to push. |
| `meridian mars cache clean` | Remove cached archives and git clones. |

## After Cloning a Repo

```

## Releasing a Package

```bash
meridian mars version patch              # 0.0.1 -> 0.0.2, commit, tag
meridian mars version minor              # 0.0.2 -> 0.1.0, commit, tag
meridian mars version major              # 0.1.0 -> 1.0.0, commit, tag
meridian mars version 1.2.3 --push       # explicit version, push to origin
```

Requires `[package]` in mars.toml and a clean working tree.

## Drift Detection

`meridian mars list --status` compares lock checksums vs on-disk state. `meridian mars doctor` runs full health checks including link integrity and dependency validation.
